With the passing of Officer Jacob Derbin, I want to share my connection. As many may know I am a proud graduate of the same high school Jacob went to, Cuyahoga Heights. Also, my Dad is a police officer in the neighboring community, Valley View. Thursday, we went to the celebration of life at Heights for Jacob. Wow, was it powerful, moving, and sad. His character was unmatched and serves as an example for everyone to follow. The stories teachers, coaches, friends, & family shared were incredible. For example, as a high schooler, Jacob was with friends at McDonald’s and a fire broke out. Without hestiation he went inside and grabbed the fire extinguisher  and put it out. This young man was way above his years.
My closing message is simple… Cherish every hug you get with your love ones. Reach out to someone who hasn’t heard from you in a while this week. Simply be kind. TAPs to the Derbin family, the Euclid PD, officers of NEO, and those all across this great nation.
