COT:

Last night at prison the devotional was about being born again and how throughout the New Testament it’s a common theme. It mentioned that when pushed back to the original language, it could have also been translated as born from above. Either way, this 2nd birth (the spiritual birth) is important for eternity.
The devotional asked questions about our childhood, when we accepted Jesus, and if being in prison has brought us closer to God.

I wasn’t surprised hearing from the 4 incarcerated men I was sitting with about their horrible abusive childhood and lack of knowledge of Christianity, but what shocked me was how different their lives have become in a short period of time since being “born again”. Two of them talked about after being sentenced, they petitioned the State to be Executed instead of spending their rest of life in prison (I didn’t know that was a thing) because they hated life. Both now talked about how thankful they are that God didn’t allow that because of their “easy and blessed life” the now live. I was floored…at least one of these men will not live outside prison again and he says his life is so easy and blessed.  This really challenged me because I’m not living with that same attitude and worldly, I have it way better. God is so good.
