COT:

My M and I volunteered at an event at the Women’s prison in Cleveland on Saturday. This event was all about forgiveness and reconciliation in the family. 12 inmates were joined by their children and the Caregiver of the kids. It was an emotional event that included the mom’s reading letters to their kids asking for forgiveness and her washing all the kids feet.In a short sermon that was preached during the event, the pastor brought something up that I really hadn’t thought about. It was pretty obvious that these women had to ask for forgiveness about their actions that got them incarcerated. But wasn’t obvious to me was that these ladies had to ask for forgiveness for missing holidays, birthdays, school events, etc. They had to ask forgiveness for all the times their kids are asked about ‘where’s your mom?’ or worse ‘why is your mom in prison ‘.

The main thing I took from the message is that most times, I’m decent at asking for forgiveness from my big failures, but I never think about asking for forgiveness for the ‘smaller ‘ things that may come out of the bigger failures.
