COT:
to quote Thumper from the Disney movie, Bambi. “If you don’t have anything nice to say, then don’t say nothing at all.”Ultimately, the COT this morning was me just griping about my sister-in-law, and family BS that Kim and I had to put up with on our camping trip this week. We ended up packing up a night early, because I was sick and tired of hearing her tell my wife how to raise our children. She has no kids and tells us she at least understands how to raise them because of her cat. Her cat is her child. We used the incoming storms as an excuse to get the kids home early and pack up the camper before it got soaking wet, but ultimately we left because Kim and I were sick of dealing with her.I don’t like to cause family drama, and I generally try to make everyone get along. I do this, even when I want to tell her to “piss off”, because I love my wife and my mother-in-law, and I genuinely want everyone to have a good time. However, we reached our limit and I knew things were just going to get worse. I removed Kim and the kids from the negative environment and left with a fairly good excuse to avoid any hurt feelings…if anyone pressed me though, I probably would have been brutally honest and said some things I would have regretted later. All in all, we had a great trip and left before I caused a permanent family schism. I guess the message is, love and support your extended family, but don’t let them affect the way you and your spouse/SO run your unit.
