COT:

During the Ruck yesterday @Garmin and discussed the recent death of actor Gene Hackman and his many great movies and the roles he played. I didn’t know much about the man outside the fact he was a long time prolific actor who had won some awards at his craft.  Out of curiosity I did a little googling and learned that he had a tough time of it as a young man. His father walked out on him and family when Gene was 13 years old. No goodbye, just gone. He joined the Marines at 16 years old and got out 6 years later.  He had a lot of anger and little direction as a young man. He started acting in hi mid 20’s an spent most of the decade and half getting some work in the field but struggling with no real end in sight. In his late 30’s he landed a supporting role in the movie Bonnie & Clyde as Clyde’s brother and the next year he stared in the French Connection. From that point his career took a on a very different direction with the money and fame that typically accompany it. His determination and work ethic never waived. In the 80’s he was in over 20 movies and almost as many in the 90’s.The lessons I take away from his career journey is the value of perseverance, hard work.  He didn’t let his past, his years of struggle deter him from his goals.  @Padre summed it up well with one word, “grit.”
