Mr. Plankerton’s Crazy Game of Poker/War

Fri., Mar. 22, 2024 / 06:00 am - 06:45 am / Medina High School

Focker

Warm-up:

Dynamic work across the field and stretchy things.

Workout:

PAX were supposed to play poker and have exercises to correlate with the winning hands, but Q did not factor in how freakin’ long it takes to deal 3…I mean 2 cards to each PAX and then continue to play through the hands for 2 more card flips. Also, Q knows jack about poker.

AUDIBLE!

Mr. Plankerton and Ms. Sasquats decided it was better to audible into a basic game of War.

PAX waited in either plank position or chair squat position while Q dealt the cards to each.
Highest card won, and each suit was associated with 2 different exercises which we traded back and forth each time the suit was picked.

PAX ran down to 50 and back and then completed the exercise for the winning suit.
All cards were equivalent to +20 reps with the exception of Aces being +30 reps. Winner of the war only had to complete half the reps.

Hearts – Mtn Climbers/SSH
Spades -Triceps /OH Press
Diamonds – Merkins/Bent Rows
Clubs – Curls for Girls/Lawn Mowers

Q and @Cadet won zero wars. Although @Cadet will tell you Q stiffed him on the deal and he should have won that one round.

6MOM:

3 Minutes of Mary was set to Tabata clock of 30sec intervals. PAX chose their own exercises for 6 sets of core work.

COT:

“Every person needs to take one day away.  A day in which one consciously separates the past from the future.  Jobs, family, employers, and friends can exist one day without any one of us, and if our egos permit us to confess, they could exist eternally in our absence.  Each person deserves a day away in which no problems are confronted, no solutions searched for.  Each of us needs to withdraw from the cares which will not withdraw from us.”
-Maya Angelou

Take time for yourself to detox from the demands of the world. To her credit Maya Angelou only did this once a year. She made a point to set aside a day to wake up without an alarm clock (sound familiar @Slow Pitch ?). She made a point to detach from any obligations and stress from the real world. By leaving the world behind for a moment – even just a day – we are able to quiet our minds and refresh ourselves to be better suited to handle the rest of it. I’m taking three days with my M this weekend. I’m leaving my kids with my mother-in-law and we are getting away to a B&B retreat until Sunday. It’s been a long time coming and I know especially that my wife needs a break from the daily demands of being home with my 4 crazy kids. Peace out, gents. Enjoy the weekend and see you all on Monday.
