As I have mentioned to many, I was blessed in meeting a very special woman late last year. In a short time, she has made a significant impact on me in how she approaches life with gratitude and a working desire for non-judgement. Both these pursuits create a solid and consistent feeling of safety… which has been an important topic for me-especially over the past year. @Squid and I have been challenging each other to question what it is to be a “man”… for me, it has brought me to the idea of being a “protector of the garden”… creating a sense of safety for those I care about. My focus has been on strength, courage, etc…. Which I do feel play a significant role. Now, it is exciting and enlightening to see the role of these (more spiritual) virtues.
As we witness today’s political transition of power as well as the celebration of a very important man in our nation’s history in MLK, I am even more thankful for this influence on my life… fully embracing and appreciating unity as not a sameness of thought… but rather, a shared respect for diversity of thought… empathy for fellow humans… and a realization that life is f@&*ing hard and we are all going through it…
Here’s to an appreciation of each and every one of you… that are unique in your thoughts, beliefs, etc. and have made me better for it.
Happy Martin Luther King Day and Happy Inauguration Day… both of which offer great opportunities to explore greater unity.
