COT:
be a nice person, treat others as part of your human community, with respect and love for all. I often fall back on this COT message at least a few times a year, because my job quite frequently reminds me that people can be real nasty or indifferent at times. Just being a caring human being and showing our brothers and sisters genuine human goodness is an amazing thing. I shared a story of a particular nurse at work who was allowing her patient to lay in his own stool for much longer than she should have. We gently prompted her to go in the room and clean him and she couldn’t be bothered to do it. Odds are she was waiting until just before the shift change so that she only had to do it once. This was very disheartening to me. I grabbed another nurse on the floor, and he and I went in and cleaned the poor patient up. Why would you work with people in a healthcare setting and NOT care about people?!? Do good, treat others with the dignity each human life deserves, and be a positive force in the world.
