COT:
81 years ago this morning on 6/6/1944 near the town of Normandy France, the largest amphibious land assault in the history of mankind took place. American and allied soldiers were finally able to take the ground war to European soil. Victory was far from assured and many brave young men lost their lives on those beaches and inland that fateful day now known as D-day. Over 2500 Americans lost their lives that day in the pursuit of preserving freedom and defeating tyranny.I urge you to share with any young person in your life the importance of today. The sacrifices made by so many because they realized what was at stake, that we get to enjoy the freedoms that they fought and died for.If you ever have the opportunity to visit Normandy, I encourage you to do so. It’s a moving and serial experience to tour the Cemeteries, German bunkers and the beaches that were the surf and sand were red with blood on that morning.I’ll end this with what I read on two different head stones of fallen soldiers that I found moving as I walked through a little cemetery connected to a little stone church outside of town. (Not all the graves are at the American cemetery)
The first read: “He died so that others might live”
And the second read: “If you knew our son, you would have loved him too”Announcement: Convergence next Saturday – details can be found above.Fun note: It seemed fitting that the weather as of yesterday looked like it was going to be nasty this morning, but it turned out to be decent. D-Day was almost postponed (again) due to weather looking unfavorable. Eisenhower made a bold move with the weather in question, it ultimately worked out and resulted in victory. Who knows what the outcome of the day would have looked like had the weather gone the other way.
