My though for today is form Matthew 18:3-4 “Truly, I say to you, unless you turn and become like children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. Whoever humbles himself like this child, he is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.” This passage became very real to me recently with the passing of my cousin Cindy. Cindy passed away a few weeks ago at the age of 59. To make a long story short, when Cindy was in her mid-30s, her heart failed. She was revived, but lost her memory and had to relearn many things. During that time, her husband left her as well. Basically, Cindy lived a very difficult life filled with suffering, but she remained incredibly joyful through it all. At her funeral, the priest giving the homily gave many examples of how Cindy truly had a child like faith. Amid all the storms in her life, she knew without a doubt that God would carry her through. Because of her faith, she was able to face the trials of life head on, and always with a smile on her face. My challenge for each of us is to stop and think about the areas in our lives where we might just need to let go and trust that God will carry us through.
